A first trip to Europe is less intimidating than it sounds — if you prepare four things well: documents, transport, accommodation and a day-by-day plan.
Documents to prepare
- A passport valid for more than 6 months.
- A Schengen visa if required — apply 1-2 months ahead.
- Travel insurance and a return flight ticket.
- Proof of accommodation and funds for entry.
Plan a route that avoids hauling your luggage
Stay in 2-3 main cities and explore around them by train. It is far less tiring than hopping through many towns. See for example the Paris 7-day plan and the Switzerland 8-day plan.
